UAB pauses IVF treatments while evaluating Ala. Supreme Court decision

The UAB Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility says it has paused in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments that involve egg fertilization, embryo development or embryo transfer as it evaluates the Alabama Supreme Court’s decision that a cryopreserved embryo is a human being.

Southern Med Law attorney Gianna Mandich says that UAB’s decision to pause IVF treatments, is not necessary. She thinks this ruling will impact safe storage of embryos over couples wanting to expand their families.
